Position:  Maintenance Supervisor – Rotating Equipment Specialist                          

 

Reports to: Maintenance Manager     

 

Location: Pasadena, TX                               FLSA: Exempt                        Hours: Days

Job Summary: Primary purpose is to serve as a Maintenance Supervisor with responsibility over site critical rotating equipment. This position will oversee the millwrights and mechanics in the field, and lead repairs and replacements of defective machinery and rotating parts, including fabrication as needed. This is a field supervisory position, not an inside desk position. Previous experience as a functioning millwright with significant experience maintaining and repairing large industrial kilns and blowers is a core requirement for this position. Fabricating parts for overhauls and general maintenance repairs is also required.  

 

 

Duties/Responsibilities:                                                                                                    

·         Expert in installing, maintaining and repairing large industrial SOLIDS HANDLING kilns, dryers, coolers, conveyors, elevators, blowers, pumps, and all rotating industrial machinery.

·         Develop and creates rotating equipment repair scopes of work for millwrights.

·         Creates written repair procedures and executes repairs and leads maintenance crews to complete the job safely and successfully.

·         Proficient with installing packing and seals, removing and installing bearings, couplings, fabricating shims, alignment fixtures and specialty jigs, Pre-alignment for equipment installation, installing belt and chain drives, installing fans and blowers, and conveyors.

·         Proficient with maintaining, repairing, and installing pumps, compressors, basic pneumatic and hydraulic systems

·         Proficient with maintaining and repairing turbines and turbine equipment.

·         Proficient with precision measurement and alignment tools, performing reverse alignment, laser alignment, optical alignment, and installing electric motors.

·         Proficient with Preventative and Predictive Maintenance techniques and methodologies

·         Conduct and lead Formal Root Cause Failure Analysis [RCFA, FMEA] investigations for rotating equipment failures.

·         Blueprint Reading: Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprint engineering schematics and technical drawings to understand machinery layouts and specifications. 

·         Machining and Fabrication: Experience with operating machine tools like lathes and grinders to fabricate or modify machine parts. 

·         Vibration and Lubrication analysis experience

·         Managing the layout and placement of plant rotating equipment and machinery to ensure minimum downtime

·         Experience and proficiency with welding and welding techniques is a bonus, but not a core requirement

·         Operating heavy equipment and machinery

·         Fitness For Duty - must be physically fit and capable of handling heavy machinery, lifting, carrying, and working in demanding physical conditions. 

·         Effective communication skills and collaboration with engineers, maintenance, reliability, and construction team members. 

·         Available and Willing to work during non-business hours, including weekends and holidays whenever unscheduled shutdowns or equipment failures occur.

·         Must have at least 10 years of previous Millwright/Mechanical/maintenance experience in a High Hazard Process [HHP] chemical plant.

  • Troubleshooting and Preventative Maintenance: Ensure all machines operate efficiently through troubleshooting and preventative maintenance services.
  • Inspection and Measurement: Inspect used parts to determine dimensional requirements using tools such as rules, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Adjustment of Equipment: Adjust functional parts of devices using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure the correct and safe operation of equipment and machinery onsite.
  • Technical Reading: Read diagrams, schematic drawings, and service manuals to determine work procedures.
  • Systems Maintenance: Troubleshoot and maintain motors, conveyors, pump systems, and pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
  • Precision Fitting: Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances.
  • Fault Identification: Identify faulty equipment through observation and testing metrics.
  • Parts Management: Identify and request replacement parts necessary for repairs.
  • Collaboration: Work with the facility manager to continually update production processes and system software as needed.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend daily shift meetings to prioritize work orders and minimize downtime.
  • Safe Operation of Tools: Safely operate cranes, power tools, hoists, and hand tools.
  • Reporting: Prepare maintenance reports and summaries using daily work orders.
  • Continuous Learning: Maintain knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems through ongoing training, industry workshops, and technical reading.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and requirements.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient repair skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks independently.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to work with a computer to perform basic data entry
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel spreadsheets, and work order management systems.

 

 

Required Education/Experience:

  • Must have a valid TWIC card and driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • Manufacturing or process related experience preferred.
  • Ten (10) years in a related maintenance trade or occupation that involved electrical, hydraulic machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Able to demonstrate trouble-shooting techniques and have an advanced understanding of blueprints.
  • Must have the ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Flair for working with large industrial machines.
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team atmosphere with minimal direct supervision with drive toward accomplishment, and to produce high quality work.

 

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Preferred 10 years of relevant plant and machine shop experience; military experience considered.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Exposure to dust/dirt/fumes/fiberglass
  • Ability to work in wet environments: including head and feet
  • Industrial manufacturing environment with extreme temperature variation
  • Exposure to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable (hearing protection is provided)
  • Ability to wear applicable PPE for up to 12 hours
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking for 8 – 12 hour shifts
  • Bending and twisting; repetitive movements
  • Able to do repetitive hand, arm, leg movements for up to 12 hours
  • Must be able to squat, bend at the waist and knees freely
  • Be able to climb up to three floors or stairs, use full upper body movement for process; stand up to 12 hours with breaks
  • Ability to work from heights
  • Lift, push and pull 40lbs.repetitively
  • Handle, control, feed, or feel objects, tools or product
  • Must be able to work flexible rotating shift schedules – mandatory overtime as required
