SUMMARY: The Service Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the shop as a business unit. Plans, directs, and controls all activities to ensure maximum utilization of facility by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the quality of all repairs of equipment assigned to the shop through the effective scheduling of personnel and parts availability.
- Communication with customer regarding progress and cost of billable repairs.
- Coordinating with outside companies, such as repairs vendors and breakdown service within company policies and procedures, to ensure quality standards are maintained with the lowest cost.
- Maintaining accuracy of all daily, weekly, and monthly shop reports to meet Interstate time frames and completeness on all reports.
- Manage the schedule of equipment for preventive maintenance in accordance with INL’s PM procedures, and/or specification of contract or as specified by the individual customer.
- Maintain breakdown goals as specified by Interstate.
- Check the quality of PM’s by performing management inspections as specified by Interstate.
- Ensure that every maintenance employee is correctly trained on performing all PM inspections by using the approved INL’s training materials.
- Order all parts including special orders to ensure parts meet quality standards through the approved parts purchasing program and ensure warranty is requested on all parts.
- Issue purchase orders prior to every purchase of service and/or repairs and ensure the purchase order is filled out completely.
- Maintain an accurate inventory.
- Conduct rental unit inspections, ensure condition and quality repairs of both outbound and inbound rental units, according to INL’s procedures.
- Manage and develop shop personnel using effective coaching and counseling, training, and performance evaluations.
- Enforcing INL’s safety rules and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Attend quality and other required management meetings.
- Ensure that every employee is given a shop orientation and is trained in the specific job they are being assigned
- Ensure that all processes and/or procedures are implemented in each time frame and everyone utilizes them.
- Assist the Sales Department with sales of packages to potential customers and renewal of existing customers.
- Perform customer visits to identify, repair and resolve complaints and issues as they arise, and maintain a relationship with the customer that will encourage repeat and referral business.
- Utilize the Work Scheduling process to direct and schedule the activities of all technicians to include monitor direct & indirect labor, control overtime, schedule vacations, and time off within workload requirements
- Communicate between shifts to ensure workflow.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations and report according to INL’s procedures.
- Ensure building and grounds maintenance.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
QAULIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years as a Service Manager in a truck leasing industry with a total of 7 years’ experience in truck leasing mechanical field preferred.
- Computer literacy with working knowledge of inventory control software; Karmak, Excel; Microsoft Word; and maintenance software.
- Technically adapted in diesel engine technology and mechanical functions.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Possesses the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to analyze financial reports to evaluate effective results of the operation and to correct defects, processes, or procedures.
