General Field Laborer
Interstate Sealant & Concrete
JOB SUMMARY
Perform skilled and unskilled work of average to considerable difficulty in the accomplishment of various tasks and
projects. Assist supervisors and foreman; work as a team to have the most successful outcome of a roadway or airport
project.
QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS
Required to maintain valid driver’s license
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must be able to travel out of state
Must pass the pre-employment physical
Must pass the pre-employment drug/alcohol test, and random tests to maintain valid driver’s status.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Repeatedly stand, walk and sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, bend body
downward and forward, bending at the knees, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work long hours and exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and is frequently
exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. Working conditions may occasionally be loud.
Ability to wear active personal protective equipment. (Hard hat, safety vest, gloves, goggles/safety glasses, face
shields, hearing protection, steel toe boots, respirator, etc.)
May be at risk of electrical shock and exposed to vibration.
Must be able to rotate from tasks including driving with trailer to lifting boxes, working with sealing equipment,
small machinery, flagging, concrete repair including occasional jackhammer usage.
Must be able to understand and follow directions and work as a team for the good of the project.
Able to properly use tools and equipment.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth
perception.
Ability to complete DOT physical qualifications to maintain a valid driver status.
Must know and understand the importance of proper securement of equipment or material on trailer/truck.
Must be able to drive a truck with a properly attached trailer including turning and backing.
Must be able to maintain and fill out fleet reports for vehicles and report any maintenance issues/cleaning of
vehicle.
Assist with inventory counts on project sites and turn into Foreman daily.
Turn in all receipts for hotels or purchases to Foreman daily.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
LEVEL 1
Must be able to always perform Essential Functions confidently and proficiently.
Able to work on road and airport projects.
Able to effectively clean joints with pressure washing behind the sawing operation.
Effectively remove old sealant via manual methods from existing joints after the sawing operation and
understanding the importance of the removal process on the overall quality of the final product.
Able to use jackhammer to remove concrete in order to prepare spall repair to accept concrete or alternative fast
setting product.
Know how to mix material properly and pour spall material into spall cavity to meet spall finisher’s mix quality.
Understand the importance of and have the ability to sandblast joints prior to sealing operation.
Must properly place backer rod in joints according to plans and specs.
Able to assist in flagging or work-zone setup with more experienced laborer.
Understand the proper start up and shutting down of air compressors, generators, and small engine equipment.
Maintain safety standards set by ISC safety policies.
Attend and participate in safety meetings and supervisory meetings as required.
Perform additional assignments per supervisor direction.
Able to provide general skills in support of General Field Laborer Level 2-4 in a team approach.
LEVEL 2
Must be able to always perform Essential Functions and Level 1 tasks confidently and proficiently.
Successfully start up and run a hot tar kettle; understanding the controls while maintaining hot tar levels without
letting it empty during project.
Able to operate a walk behind bevel saw.
Understanding small engine operational standards, i.e., pressure washer, water pump, blower, bevel saw, etc.
Able to place backer rod confidently and proficiently in joint according to plans and specs.
Understand how to change router bits and pins and operate the router safely.
Able to help provide training to Level 1 General Field Laborers.
Able to provide general skills in support of General Field Laborer Level 3-4 in a team approach.
LEVEL 3
Must be able to always perform Essential Functions, Level 1 and Level 2 tasks confidently and proficiently.
Able to use a team concept approach actively participating in problem solving certain situations.
Work with Level 4 General Field Laborer to learn how to cut and widen concrete joints with walk-behind or riding
saw.
Able to route cracks properly.
Able to successfully seal cracks and joints per plans and specs with silicone, hot pour, silane, etc.
Must know start up, shutdown, maintenance, and proper cleaning procedures for silicone pump.
Must be able to change silicone drums during sealing operations.
Must know start up, shutdown, maintenance and proper cleaning procedures for silane pump and truck.
Understand sweeping tasks and job specific requirements while following operational and daily maintenance and
cleaning procedures.
Must be trained and certified to properly operate skid steer – maneuvering, loading, and unloading materials and
equipment.
Able to help provide training to Level 1 and 2 General Field Laborers.
Able to provide general skills in support of General Field Laborer Level 4 in a team approach.
LEVEL 4
Must be able to always perform Essential Functions, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 tasks confidently and proficiently.
Recognize and use proper concrete saw blades to maximize efficiency of saw cutting.
Must be able to independently set up traffic control on highways, two lane roads, and city streets and obtain
proper certifications when required to perform this type of work.
Must be proficient in saw cutting and widening of all types of joints including construction, contraction and
expansion with walk behind saw or riding saw.
Must be proficient in chasing random cracks with a walk behind saw or riding saw.
Ability to operate a ride on router independently.
Ability to operate compression seal machine and install compression seal while understanding adjustments
necessary to place compression seal in the joints per specifications
Able to help provide training to Level 1-3 General Field Laborers
Act as assistant to Supervisor or Foreman when needed.
