InterStellar BBQ, the Michelin Star Recipient and Texas Monthly Number 2 ranked BBQ restaurant in the state, is hiring a full time baker/pastry cook. Our restaurant is busy and growing so we're always looking for opportunities to enhance our team and hospitality. We are looking for a friendly, fun person with a good personality to join our back of house staff. This is a position involving large scale production of Interstellar's recipes for scratch-made desserts and flour tortillas, with the addition of recipe development collaboration alongside our chef/owner and Kitchen Manager to add new offerings to our dessert menu. Some other general kitchen prep is expected. The right person for this position should have 2-3 years experience in pastry/baking in a restaurant or catering setting. This is a full-time Tuesday-Saturday or Wednesday-Sunday early morning position, approximately 5-6am to 1-2pm. Experience working in BBQ is a plus, but not required.
Job Description: To execute restaurant desserts and other special projects on a daily basis, anticipate demand for desserts and plan adequate pars, work with management and ownership on recipe development for new desserts and specials.
Pay: $15-$17/hr based on experience, plus tips; $25.00 to $28.00 per hour total compensation on average
Benefits: Health insurance available at 60 days with company contribution. Paid week off after one year. Selected holidays off.
Hours: 5-6am to 1-2pm Tues-Sat or Wed-Sun, depending on weekly volume needs
Responsibilities:
- Working with management to establish daily dessert prep list and pars
- Executing existing Interstellar dessert recipes with high level of consistency and time management
- Collaborate with ownership and management on new menu item/recipe development
- Working cleanly and following proper sanitation rules
- Maintaining and cleaning prep station daily
- Must be able to lift 50 to 75 pound boxes
- Should be able to multi-task and prioritize according to service and preorder needs for the day
- Be able to perform basic prep tasks and knife work as needed
