What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Plan Check Engineer position at Interwest Consulting Group?
- Primarily review structural plans for construction projects.
- Reviews plans and specifications for projects to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations. Provide timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies in plans and specifications.
- Provide excellent customer service
- Review building permits with regards to regulations set by the Building Divisions
- Assist inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues and answer questions from inspectors about plan review comments.
- Cultivate, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with directors, managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support on assigned projects/assignments.
- Experience/knowledge of wood, concrete, steel and masonry buildings/structures, including CBC, CRC, ASCE7, NDS, AISC, ACI318, ACI530 and AISI standards.
- Experience/knowledge of wood, steel and concrete lateral load resisting systems (SMF, OMF, BRBF, SCBF, wood and concrete shear walls, etc.)
- Experience/knowledge of structural design software (i.e. ENERCALC, ETABS, SAP, RISA, ADAPT, HILTI Profis, Simpson Anchor design, etc.)
- Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
- Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are vital
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Engineering Degree required
- Experience with wood framed construction preferred.
- ICC Building Plan Review Certification
- ICC Plan Review Certifications in multiple trades preferred
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record
- P.E. License with emphasis on structural preferred.
- E.I.T. on track to obtain PE license is acceptable.
- 2 years experience in structural design and structural plan review.
