Description
A Prototyping Technician in the Acoustics team works with Prototyping and Acoustic Engineers to fabricate and assemble parts into test fixtures and acoustic prototypes. These are used to evaluate the sound quality of products under development.
The technician for this specific role will be the first technician in a new lab. As such, the individual will need to be comfortable working in an environment in which the job responsibilities will evolve as projects are added or removed from the team s project list, and equipment is added or removed from the lab. The technician is also expected to work collaboratively with the other lab owners and users in adjacent labs and facilities to share resources and knowledge.
The technician in this role will have primary responsibility for lab maintenance. This includes, but is not limited to, keeping the lab tidy and clean, putting away tools and cleaning work stations, maintaining consumables, including PPE, and restocking lab inventory, interfacing with EH&S and waste management reps to remove hazardous waste, maintaining maintenance and calibration contracts for equipment in the lab, and interfacing with the Facilities team and the building s cleaning contractor.
Fabrication of parts is a key capability within the Acoustics Prototyping team that supports our ability to quickly react to requests from our customers. The Prototyping Technician will be responsible for maintaining the team s 3D printers and other part fabrication and assembly equipment (i.e. glue dispensing and curing equipment, soldering stations, molding equipment, 3D printing post-processing equipment) in peak condition, minimizing downtime while maintaining the highest resolution/highest quality output. Primary responsibility for operation of the equipment will transition from Prototyping Engineer to Prototyping Technician on a flexible basis.
Last, but not least, to utilize fixtures and prototypes, the constituent parts must be assembled. The components we work with range from the millimeter to centimeter to decimeter size scale. Having the manual dexterity to manipulate and assemble parts within the full size range is crucial.
Education & Experience
Most of our technicians have a 2-year technical college/associates degree or equivalent, but if you ve followed a different path, we still want to hear from you.
