Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

The Manager, Commercial Learning will manage a team of commercial training professionals to create and support training initiatives in an effort to improve the knowledge and skills of our commercial employees. The Manager, Commercial Learning closely collaborates with regional colleagues and cross-functional managers in many departments including Global Sales Enablement, Field Sales, Sales Management, Clinical/Product Education, and Marketing to head training initiatives to address the needs of the Intuitive Commercial Employees.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Leadership

• Coach and manage a team of successful training professionals.
• Recruit talented training professionals.
• Develop training staff skill and knowledge through ongoing personnel development.
• Teach and audit adherence to relevant Standard Operating Procedures and training processes.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
• Partner with the Commercial Leadership Team to support the sales strategy by aligning all training programs and initiatives to the priorities.
• Assess sales team’s strengths and gaps pertaining to knowledge and skills; Develop programs to address knowledge gaps
• Collaboration with peers within the Global Sales Enablement team to adhere to training processes and support each other in their initiatives
• Collaborate with internal partners within Global Commercial Learning, Salesforce Effectiveness, ISI Business School, HR, Talent Development, Clinical/Product Education and other cross functional partners to standardize business processes
• Drive new product commercialization initiatives to create training curricula, collaborate with cross-functional team to roll out training and manage train-the-trainer sessions as needed

Technical Training

• Become a Subject Matter Expert of da Vinci® Surgical System pre, intra and postoperative management
• Maintain “expert” level certification of da Vinci® Surgical Systems, da Vinci® Instruments and Accessories, and da Vinci® Advanced Technology
• Manage and coordinate certification of training staff to maintain their “trainer” level status
• Educate Intuitive Commercial employees to train and support their da Vinci® customers on: 
  • da Vinci® Instruments and Accessories
  • da Vinci® Advanced Technology
  • da Vinci® Surgical Systems
• Educate Intuitive Commercial employees on the da Vinci® technical value propositions
• Drive Train-the-Trainer Technical programs and trainings for Global Commercial Learning peers
• Assess training participants technical proficiency

Clinical Training

• Become a Subject Matter Expert across key specialties: general surgery, colorectal surgery, gynecologic surgery, thoracic surgery, and bariatric surgery.
• Maintain “expert” level certification of da Vinci surgical procedure lectures
• Manage and coordinate certification of training staff to maintain their “Trainer” level status
• Educate Intuitive Commercial employees on relevant clinical procedures as part of sales training programs and initiatives, as needed
• Educate Intuitive Commercial employees on the da Vinci® clinical value propositions
• Assess training participants clinical proficiency

Sales Training

• Effectively present and deliver ISI Clinical Sales Process presentations and workshops to new and existing employees
• Leverage various formats and venues for training programs, such as instructor-led, self-led, distance learning/remote, video and podcast, etc. to maximize the impact of the content while optimizing costs
• Assess training participants sales proficiency

Training Programs

• Manage all segments of new hire training programs: Clinical and System Training (CAST)
• Create curricula, agendas and training materials for all technical, clinical and sales training programs for existing commercial employees, as needed

Analytical:

• Measure sales effectiveness of training programs and develop reports and comprehensive programs insights; define action plans
• Forecast and design curricula to meet organizational needs
