The Capital Markets Investment Analyst will be a key member of the Capital Markets Desk, supporting loan acquisition, sales, and trading activities. This role is critical as the firm expands its loan trading capabilities. The successful candidate will have strong financial modeling skills, a solid understanding of mortgage-backed securities (MBS), and the ability to manage large datasets for pricing, risk assessment, and portfolio optimization. The analyst will work closely with internal teams, including portfolio management, securitization, and risk, to ensure data integrity and support trading decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the purchase and sale of mortgage loans, including due diligence, pricing, and trade settlement.
- Analyze loan-level data to assess portfolio composition, credit risk, and pricing trends.
- Support the structuring and execution of whole loan transactions, working with internal teams and external counterparties.
- Develop and maintain financial models and pricing tools to support trading and capital markets strategies.
- Assist in managing data flows between the investment team, counterparties, and external trading platforms.
- Collaborate with securitization and portfolio construction teams to ensure alignment between loan sales and overall fund strategy.
- Monitor and report on market trends, pricing spreads, and liquidity conditions in the non-agency mortgage space.
- 1-2 years of experience in capital markets, investment banking, structured finance, or mortgage trading, or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in financial modeling and loan pricing.
- Proficiency in SQL and Excel; experience with Python, VBA, or other programming languages is a plus.
- Understanding of whole loan trading, non-agency residential mortgage backed securities (RMBS), and mortgage credit fundamentals.
- Experience working with large datasets, including loan-level and market data.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret large datasets to drive informed trading decisions.
Market Awareness: Strong understanding of non-agency mortgage markets, pricing dynamics, and liquidity trends.
Technical Proficiency: Experience in financial modeling, SQL databases, and data visualization.
Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy in pricing models, trade reports, and financial analysis.
Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external trading partners.
Adaptability: Comfortable with shifting priorities and evolving market conditions.
