The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) role in Stamford Public Schools (SPS) involves supporting students with behavioral and educational needs, particularly in special education settings. BCBAs in SPS typically work within specialized programs like the STAR Program, which is designed for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and utilizes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies. They may also support the CORE program for students with intellectual and social challenges, and the REACH therapeutic classrooms for students with social-emotional needs
Key Responsibilities of a BCBA
Behavioral Assessment & Intervention: Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
ABA Implementation: Supervise ABA interventions, train staff, and monitor progress.
Collaboration: Work with teachers, special educators, and therapists (e.g., Speech and Occupational Therapy) to support individualized education plans (IEPs).
Data Collection & Analysis: Use data-driven decision-making to improve student outcomes.
Professional Development: Train teachers and paraprofessionals on behavior management strategies.
Requirements:
- BCBA Certification: Candidates must hold a current Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Master’s Degree: A graduate degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Special Education, Psychology, or a related field is typically required.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children with special needs in a school setting is preferred.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles.
- Ability to develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Experience conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
- Collaboration skills to work with teachers, administrators, and parents.
