Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction & Lesson Planning:
- Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned math lessons that cater to the individual learning needs of students with IEPs.
- Differentiate instruction and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Incorporate a variety of teaching methods, technology, and manipulatives to enhance student understanding and engagement.
- IEP Implementation:
- Review and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students, ensuring that instructional strategies are tailored to their specific goals.
- Regularly assess students' progress toward IEP goals and make necessary adjustments to instruction.
- Collaborate with special education staff to ensure that all accommodations and modifications are met in the classroom.
- Classroom Management:
- Establish a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Implement classroom management strategies that promote student engagement and positive behavior.
- Ensure that students feel supported both academically and emotionally.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with general education teachers, special education staff, and other support personnel to ensure all students' needs are being met.
- Participate in IEP meetings, providing input on student progress and recommendations for modifications to the learning plan.
- Engage with parents/guardians to maintain open communication regarding student performance, needs, and progress.
- Assessment & Data Analysis:
- Regularly assess students’ math skills using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
- Use data to inform instruction and make decisions to enhance student learning outcomes.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to remain current on best practices in special education and math instruction.
- Stay informed about new instructional technologies and methods that could benefit students with special needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Math Education, or a related field.
- PA Teaching Certification in Special Education (required) and Middle School Math (preferred).
- Experience working with students with disabilities, specifically in an urban school setting, is preferred.
- Strong understanding of math content and pedagogy for middle school students.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
