What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outdoor Education Specialist position at Inyo County Office of Education?
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Outdoor Education Specialist coordinates and manages a variety of outdoor science programs that support the implementation of hands-on, standards-based science for local public school students. Located in the Owens Valley, programs include a three to four-week, 5-day Outdoor Science School overnight “camp” experience (5th/6th grade); two 5-day overnight Summer Camps (middle school); the Eastern Sierra Watershed Project field trip program (grades 2, 4, and 6-8); two monthly field programs for 3rd & 5th grades; and other outdoor education/science programs as needed. Working in partnership with school districts, other agencies, and families, the Inyo County Office of Education staff supports quality education for all students. Our responsibilities are to facilitate and communicate information, programs, and change; serve as an innovative role model; promote increased efficiency; and coordinate efforts. -Must possess or be willing to obtain a California Teaching Credential
-Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, preferably with major studies in the environmental sciences, biology, conservation, or related field.
