Our product portfolio includes fluorescent ion indicators and cell health/metabolism reagents to measure cell activities in response to compounds such as drugs or other extracellular cues.
Position Summary
ION Biosciences is offering a full-time position to join our Chemistry Production team in San Marcos, TX. This role will require a strong background in organic synthesis techniques, working to produce and purify intermediates and final products by following standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities
• Following lab safety practices, wearing appropriate PPE, maintaining a clean work space and meticulously documenting experiments and results in e-lab notebook.
• Synthesizing gram scale products and intermediates for ion indicators, following described experimental procedures and known synthetic routes.
• Conducting separation techniques including distillation, crystallization, filtration and extraction.
• Performing purification techniques such as recrystallization, preparative TLC and column chromatography.
• Work with standard equipment such as rotary evaporators, vacuum pumps, lyophilizers, fume hoods and laboratory glassware.
• Prepare solutions and starting materials following standard formulas or experimentally described processes.
• Communicating orally and in writing, your knowledge, procedures and results using basic terminology.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry; a focus in Organic Chemistry is preferred.
• 2 years of experience in a synthetic chemistry production role producing greater than gram scale.
• Familiarity with standard chemical reactions such as refluxing and other conventional reaction techniques is required.
• Knowledge of common synthetic reactions like reductions, acetylations, esterifications, etc.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.
• An ideal candidate has a working proficiency with liquid chromatographs such as an HPLC, LCMS or prepLC.
Requirements
• Daily duties are performed in an office and laboratory setting.
• Minimum of 40 hours per week.
• May require lifting or moving items weighing up to 25 lbs.
