Description

The NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 10-month non-tenure-track faculty position as a Clinical Lecturer in Health and Wellness, beginning August 2025. We seek a dynamic educator with expertise in preventative health, fitness programming, human anatomy and physiology, and wellness who is committed to excellence in teaching, service, and professional development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across the NYP Iona School of Health Sciences and the broader University, have a presence within the University community, mentor students, contribute to curriculum development, and enhance the School’s reputation through impactful engagement. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in anatomy and physiology, exercise science, and others within the health and wellness major. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of health and wellness education at Iona University. Primary Responsibilities include:

 

  • Creating a student-centered learning environment that integrates in-person instruction
  • Utilizing innovative and evidence-based teaching strategies, including active learning, case-based instruction, problem-solving approaches, and experiential learning activities.
  • Demonstrating strong classroom management skills, fostering a supportive, inclusive, and interactive learning environment.
  • Assessing and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning styles and needs
  • Developing and revising curricula to align with evidence-based best practices in health and wellness education.
  • Designing engaging, hands-on, and service-learning experiences that prepare students for careers as allied health professionals.
  • Contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives at the program, school, and institutional levels.
  • Utilizing learning assessment data to enhance teaching effectiveness and curriculum development.
  • Actively participating in student recruitment, retention, and admissions efforts, while mentoring students in career and professional development.
  • Serving on committees, task forces, and workgroups within the School and University.
  • Demonstrating professionalism, ethical behavior, and a commitment to shared governance.
  • Supporting and participating in the University’s system of shared governance.
  • Promoting the mission of Iona University, fostering a culture of respect and collaboration with students, faculty, staff, and the wider community.

 

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:

 

  • PhD in a health-related field (e.g., Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Health Sciences)
  • Current certification/credential in an allied health or wellness-related discipline
  • Demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching

 

Required Skills and Experience:

 

  • Effective instructional skills, including the ability to engage and motivate students through interactive and applied learning methods.
  • Available to maintain a regular presence on campus, including holding office hours, attending meetings and university events
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, balancing teaching, mentoring, and service responsibilities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with a proactive approach to curriculum development and innovation in health and wellness education.
  • Proven ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and staff
  • A willingness to collaborate effectively in a diverse academic environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with students, faculty, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong classroom management skills, fostering a structured, inclusive, and engaging educational environment.
  • Ability to assess student learning and apply innovative strategies to enhance comprehension and retention.
  • Technological proficiency, including experience with learning management systems (LMS), virtual teaching tools, and digital assessments.
  • Commitment to student success, with a demonstrated ability to mentor and guide students in their academic and professional development.
