We are looking for an Experimental Physicist with experience in transforming complex atomic physics experiments into practical applications. As a member of the engineering and technology organization, you'll be part of a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers whose mission is to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems. You'll be a technical contributor on the team responsible for demonstration of novel ion trap architectures for next-generation trapped-ion quantum computers.
Responsibilities :
- Experimentally characterize the performance of novel ion traps for improved performance and scalability
- Closely collaborate with the trap design and trap fabrication teams in the design and testing of novel ion trap architectures
- Demonstrate new capabilities of ion traps for scaling to several hundreds of qubits
- Improve the performance of trap testing tools for increased throughput, stability, and novel features

Location : This position will be based on-site in College Park, Maryland.
The approximate base salary range for this position is $123,191 - $161,289 .
Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co / jobs . IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, a quick 15-minute metro from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
