What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geographic Information Systems Technician position at IOS Staffing Services?
This position organizes and coordinates the development and maintenance of the Geographic Information System (GIS). This position also includes Computer Aided Design (CAD) drafting for all in-house utility and construction projects. This position is an essential part of the Information Technology Department and reports directly to the Information Technology Department Director.
Plans, organizes, and coordinates the development and maintenance of the client's GIS and mobile GIS. Researches and designs databases, collects, and enters data.Coordinates GIS workflow, receives requests from other departments, and prioritizes and coordinate projects to ensure completion.Designs and maintains spatial and relational databases to meet organizational needs.Annually updates annexation data for the U.S. Census Bureau.Demonstrates ownership of GIS-related opportunities and challenges; and leads the transition of GIS applications to next-generation environments and / or cross-functional systems.Administers central repository of mapping data to ensure organization and maintenance of data structure and the least disruption in application availability.Extracts utility data and imports into GIS.Performs data analysis for Fire Department Accreditation.Reviews incoming developments for fiber network improvement possibilities.Updates Engineering Specifications, General Notes and Details, Utility Maps, Street Map Book, City Limits, Future land Use and Zoning data on the client's website.Creates and maintains speed enforcement interactive map for police department.Creates and maintains street maintenance interactive map for the client's website.Updates Fire map books, including Wellness Way additions.Creates and maintains interactive map for Wellness Way roads and future roads.Creates maps to scale to help determine potential parking space locations.Maintains and manages user accounts for ArcGIS online.Creates data to display on maps to help others to make decisions. Copies, scans, and prints on large format scanners when needed. Geocodes data (meters, fire calls) for visual display and analysis.Designs and maintains Hub webpage for client's website.Creates public notices on the client's website of road and sidewalk closures for business owners and citizens.Updates engineering standards, details, and digital data standards.Performs Computer Aided Design (CAD) drafting for in house utility and construction projects.Coordinates with Information Technology staff to ensure systems are configured optimally and are properly baked up.Configures Trimble GPS units for field use.Creates and proofs legal descriptions for Developmental Services.Establishes communications with local and state agencies to build relationships and collaborate in the improvement of our fiber network. Assists Building Services and Public Service with legal description knowledge by researching easements or drawing legal descriptions to ensure accuracy.Assists Procurement department by providing maps for bids.Updates GIS data to assist departments for use in Trak-It and Lucity.Configures survey application for each hurricane for firefighters to utilize in the field, which shows in-office personnel where help is needed.Updates general notes and details in AutoCAD for contractors to download on the client's website.Creates a variety of maps by request to assist decision makers with a visual representation of their project.Maintains inventory of internal and external as-builts and uploads them into LaserFiche.Assists in testing potential upgraded GIS servers and assists in configuring GIS portal once integration is complete.Assists with software integrations with the GIS.Maintains hard copy and electronic records as required.Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality service to other departments.Coordinates with other cities, counties, and state entities.Serve as an active member of the IT support team addressing support tickets, assisting with projects and general support for the staff.Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Computer Science.Five (5) years of experience working with geographic information systems, such as ArcGIS.Experience with CAD software, such as AutoCAD.Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.Regular vehicle driving.
Work EnvironmentWorks inside in an environmentally controlled space. Occasionally works outdoors.
