What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Psychologist position at Iosco RESA?
Position Overview: The School Psychologist functions as part of various evaluation teams to determine root causes of students who show difficulties with learning and or behavior. They are expected to be part of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and be involved in the special education referral process. In addition to the above, they evaluate individual students using various psychological instrument and assist in developing sound educational plans.
Application Requirements:
- Master’s degree
- School Psychologist Certificate – MDE, preliminary or full
- The requirements as outlined under R340.1799e of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (use of computer and applicable software)
- Ability to lift and carry testing equipment
- Ability to work well with others as a team and communicate successfully with students, parents, staff, community, etc.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate individual student abilities and achievement through various psychological instruments to determine recommendations for Special Education eligibility.
- Participate as a member of the IEP (individualized Education Plan) team and member of the MET (Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team) for initial, change of eligibility status and three-year re-evaluations.
- Write reports on the results of the evaluations and propose eligibility for Special Education recommendations.
- Timely and accurate completion of written reports and related records as required by the IRESA ISD and local education agencies.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and statistical data to job responsibility and student testing information.
- Communicate in a clear, understandable language, evaluation results to parents, referral sources and colleagues within the school setting prior to the IEP team
- Have the knowledge and ability to assist school districts in developing, implementing and maintaining a Multi-Tiered system of Support (MTSS) that include knowledge of assessment systems, managing data and collaboration.
- Exhibit effective, professional customer focused interpersonal skills with school districts, parent and agencies.
- Shall assume responsibility for keeping informed of current developments in the area of school psychology and special education and maintain readiness to adapt to change.
- Other duties as requested by the Director of Special Education.
