Description Summary
The Athletic Trainer will oversee the health and well-being of all intercollegiate athletes.
Examples of Duties
Constant (67-100%)
- Oversee and direct the athletes’ rehabilitation program.
- Provide athletic training coverage at all home events, including evenings and weekends.
- Provide athletic training coverage and direct student athletic trainer supervision at athletic practices.
- Coordinate appointments with physicians for athletic related injuries.
- Maintain documentation of injuries.
- Direct treatment of athletic injuries.
- Provide clinical instruction and direct supervision of student athletic trainers.
- Schedule student athletic trainer rotations and assignments.
- Conduct monitoring of treatment/rehabilitation, if necessary, by appointment.
- Schedule doctors appointments, MRI’s, x-rays, etc. for athletes.
Frequent (34-66%)
- Communicate with athletic coaches, Head Athletic Trainer and the Intercollegiate Athletics Director.
- Assist admissions and athletic coaches by talking with potential high school and transfer student athletes.
- Assist with pre-season physicals.
- Provide first aid.
- Establish athletes’ eligibility to participate based on filing completed insurance forms/physicals.
- Conduct drug testing.
- Assist athletic coaches in pre-season testing.
- Advise other staff/faculty on medical concerns.
- Advise athletic coaches on playing conditions (heat index, lightning).
Occasional (10-33%)
- Maintain adequate inventory and supplies.
- Advise student athletic training majors.
- Correspond with parents.
- Communicate and coordinate with ambulance service when needed.
- Oversee work study for student athletic trainers and graduate assistants.
- Measure and fit athletes with post injury orthosis as indicated by physicians.
- Communicate with peers at other institutions.
- Counsel athletes and student athletic trainers.
- Attend routine pre meetings for events.
- Other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

2. Full-time, 12 month employment.
3. Some weekend and evening hours required and may be extensive seasonally.
4. May be on call at times.
5. Maintain national certification by continuing education standards set by NATA.
6. Participate in leadership positions/committees at the state, district and national levels.
7. Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
8. Ability to work within a defined budget.
9. Excellent role model and leader for young people.
10. Willingness to travel.
Qualifications
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree, with successful completion of the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer examination. Must be compassionate, patient, empathetic and care about people. Possess a working knowledge of NJCAA/ICCAC. Valid driver’s license is required.
