Night Substitute Custodian
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated custodial experience or ability to be trained as evaluated by the Custodial Managers of the Facilities Management Department.
- Proven ability to communicate with others.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of housekeeping practices and materials.
- Knowledge of routine maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
- Bending, lifting to 70 lbs. on a routine basis, climbing, continuous standing while working.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities Management, Custodial Manager, and Building Administrator
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOALS:
Under the co-supervision of Director of Facilities Management, Custodial Manager, Building Administrator, guidance of the Head Custodian, direction of the Physical Plant Secretary and/or Office Manager, performs custodial work required for the routine care, maintenance, protection, and preservation of assigned buildings, contents, and immediate grounds. The Night Sub’s building and area assignment will change daily to meet the needs of the district to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains an environment in the assigned workplace safe, secure, and conducive to student learning.
- Flexible, adaptable, and cooperative to meet daily service requirements. Perform “normal” responsibilities for assigned areas as time permits.
- Order and maintain supplies if needed.
- Assure that cleanliness in the school meets District standard.
- Assure that the facility is properly heated, ventilated and/or cooled (report major problems to Head Custodian or Facilities Management Department).
- Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of school property through theft or pilferage.
- Be responsive to the needs of the building administrator including arrangements for lunch, evening activities and meetings, etc.
- Assist in the training of new employees.
- Have knowledge to be available to cover for the Head Custodian
- Assure the snow removal meets district standards for the safety of the students, staff, and public.
- Complete as many minor repair jobs as materials, tools, and time permit.
- Communicate clearly with others using verbal and written methods.
- Apply computer skills using email and data entry in the electronic work order system.
- Perform work using the following items: Cleaning agents, vacuums, and floor care machines, Yard equipment and snow removal machines, Furniture and equipment dollies, hand tools, and ladders
- Perform exterior work and maintenance including: Snow removal, Athletic complex and entryways, Upkeep parking lots and empty trash, Report damage as discovered and perform daily perimeter checks
- Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role involves a combination of indoor and outdoor work. Employees may be required to perform tasks in an office or indoor facility as well as in various outdoor settings, which could include exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and other environmental factors

- May be exposed to ultraviolet radiation and bloodborne pathogens.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
