Secondary Head Custodian
Shift: Monday - Friday 6:00AM - 2:30PM
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three years’ experience performing work, directing operations and personnel in custodial services or other similar service industry.
- Proven ability to communicate with others.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of housekeeping practices and materials.
- Ability to schedule work of other custodians.
- Knowledge of minor equipment repairs.
- Knowledge of routine maintenance.
- Bending, lifting to 70 lbs. on a routine basis, climbing, continuous standing while working required.
- May be exposed to dust, dirt, and chemicals.
- Work is both indoors and outdoors.
- May be exposed to inclement weather, ultraviolet radiation, and blood borne pathogens.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities Management, Custodial Managers and Building Administrator
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOALS:
Performs custodial work required for the routine care, maintenance, protection and preservation of the assigned building, its contents, and immediate grounds. Direct other custodial staff assigned to maintain the facility to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform work and direct work of staff to provide efficient, safe, and timely services.
- Maintain an environment in the assigned workplace safe and conducive to student learning and public gathering. Assure that facility is properly heated, ventilated and/or cooled (report major problems to Physical Plant).
- Assure that cleanliness in the school meets District standard.
- Assure that snow removal meets district standards for the safety of students, staff and public.
- Meet with administration for building needs.
- Available for building construction/maintenance projects.
- Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of school property through theft or pilferage.
- Assure daily, weekly, and annual services are planned and carried out.
- Assist building departments with indoor/outdoor events, including setup, tear down, cleaning, etc.
- Assist building staff with outside delivery services (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.)
- Order and maintain sufficient supplies.
- Direct custodial staff in performance of required services.
- Be responsive to needs of building administrators including arrangements for lunch, evening activities and meetings, etc.
- Assist in the evaluation and training of new employees assigned to the school.
- Complete as many minor repair jobs as materials, tools, and time permit
- Provide input in the continual review of services required to meet changing needs.
- Communicate clearly with others using verbal and written methods.
- Apply computer skills using email and data entry in the electronic work order system.
- Perform work and use equipment including:
Cleaning agents
- Vacuums
- Yard equipment
Snow removal machines
- Furniture and equipment dollies
- Various floor care machines
Hand tools
- Ladders & scaffolding
- Man lift
- Perform exterior work and maintenance including:
Snow removal
- Athletic complex
- Maintain entryways
Upkeep parking lots
- Empty trash cans
Report any damage
- Daily perimeter check
- Other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
