Job Description

The Second Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking qualified candidates for immediate Court Reporter openings. The position will include travel within the Second Judicial District, some positions requiring more than others, and may be assigned to work with any Judicial Officer as needed. Compensation includes base salary plus transcript income and State of Iowa benefit package.

The starting salary for new State of Iowa Judicial employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. The pay range for this position is $28.52 - $46.54 per hour / $2281.60 - $3723.20 bi-weekly. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience.

Hours : Monday to Friday, 8 : 00A – 4 : 30P

The Court Reporter openings for the 2nd Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch are with the following Judges :

Hon. Judge Austin, District Associate Judge (Hardin County)

Hon. Judge Batey, District Associate Judge (Butler / Floyd County)

Hon. Judge Milder, District Associate Judge (Bremer County)

Hon. Judge Sauer, District Associate Judge (Cerro Gordo County)

Hon. Judge Schroeder, District Judge (Floyd County)

Key Responsibilities :

Captures court testimony and proceedings with stenography machine

Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request

Prepares transcripts, performs general office work

Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings

Performs related work as determined by Judge, Chief Judge or designee

Electronic document filing required in all counites within the District

May be required to work for any Judicial Officer within the District per operational needs

Travel required

Court Reporter will purchase and maintain court reporting software and stenotype machines and / or verbatim recording equipment

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and graduation from a school of court reporting.

Must be certified by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters within 12 months of employment, and certification must be maintained as a condition of employment. Certification demonstrates proficiency based on the standard of the National Court Reporters Association for the earned designation of Registered Professional Reporter or the National Verbatim Reporters Association for the earned designation of Certified Verbatim Reporter.
