Role and Responsibilities
Iowa State Parks are seeking motivated individuals to help maintain the park for the 2024 recreation season. Iowa State Parks provide challenging environments to expand park management skills and prepare potential candidates for a career in state parks or similar fields.
Duties include various aspects of park operations including facility and grounds maintenance, natural resource management, and visitor engagement. The role of the seasonal employee plays an integral part in enhancing visitors' experience.
Most positions focus on general maintenance activities, but a few areas are also hiring Seasonal Patrol Officers (duties focused on enforcing park rules) and Seasonal Interpreters/Naturalists (duties focused on planning and presenting engaging programs to visitors). Position types are listed on each location link.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Skills:
1. Skills, knowledge, and/or experience associated with general park maintenance tasks (equipment operation, construction, janitorial, painting, plumbing, carpentry).
2. Ability to work as a team and at times, with minimal supervision. Also, the ability to keep on task during times of little to no supervision.
3. Possess customer relations skills to assist park visitors with various information requests.
Duties: *
- Assist visitors by providing park information
- Checking campsite, cabin, shelter, and lodge reservations
- Grass mowing, trimming, trail repair
- Cleaning restrooms and shower buildings
- Facility maintenance and repair
- Equipment maintenance and operation
- Power tool operation
- Natural resource management (prairie restoration and invasive species removal)

Pay: $12.50 - $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
