Level/Salary Range: $15/hour

Role and Responsibilities
Seasonal Patrol Officers are positions of high responsibility helping to ensure a safe recreational environment for the public at state parks and/or designated off-highway vehicle parks and state parks across Iowa.
Patrol duties:
- Check compliance with Iowa's parks, fishing, and navigation regulations.
- Ensure compliance with Iowa's off highway vehicle laws.
- Provide public assistance and safety education through personal contacts.
- Respond to scenes of emergency situations including accidents, missing persons, or other calls for assistance. Assess the situation, alert officers and/or other agencies.
- Assist rescue personnel and investigating officers. Other duties:
- Register campers and maintain park facilities as directed.
- Maintain assigned equipment as directed.
- Complete activity reports, timesheets, citations, and incident reports.
- Participate in public safety education programs.
Maintenance Duties
- Use equipment to help maintain facilities and grounds under supervision of full time staff
- Work with power tools as needed
- Help to complete projects as directed by full time staff
- Clean restrooms as needed
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
No specific education or experience is required.
Past experience as a conservation or recreation seasonal or temporary employee within the Department or equivalent position in an outside agency would be beneficial to an applicant.
Also, having attended a Seasonal Officer Training through the Department, Reserve Officer Training, or the National Parks Services Park Ranger Law Enforcement Academy Training Program would be beneficial to an applicant.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be at least 18 years of age.
Applicants must also possess a valid motor vehicle license and submit to clearance of a background check.
Preferred Skills:
1. Skills, knowledge, and/or experience associated with general park maintenance tasks (equipment operation, construction, janitorial, painting, plumbing, carpentry).
2. Ability to work with minimal supervision and directly with the public handling customer needs.
3. Possess customer relations skills to assist park visitors with a variety of information requests.
