What are the responsibilities and job description for the Endoscopy Technician position at Iowa Endoscopy Center?
JOB SUMMARY Provides individualized and specialized care to patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse in the endoscopy area in accordance with physicians’ orders, recognized nursing techniques, legal aspects of current practice of the State, and the facilities policies and procedures. Functions cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics in decision making process.
Works extensively in the reprocessing area cleaning endoscopes and endoscopy related equipment. May be given special training to fill in at the Facility front desk as a receptionist if the need arises.
REQUIREMENTS: Experience in GI endoscopy preferred but not required. Handles sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact. Ability to comply with patient confidentiality. Maintains neat professional appearance.
QUALIFICATIONS Physical: Good physical health required because of long periods of standing, walking and work required.
Must be well coordinated and able to move about freely. Dexterity necessary. Visual and audio acuity as need for job performance. Speaks clearly and distinctly. Neat, clean and particular about appearance.
Mental: Stamina. Good memory, patient and tactful. Emotional stability. Able to both listen and direct. Skill in organization.
Education and Licensure: minimum high school diploma.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Responsible to the Clinical Manager. Does not supervise any employees. Works directly with the Endoscopy Nurses.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Works with professional staff assisting with patient care, room and area turn-around, stocking, and duties as assigned. Provides a safe and clean environment. Communicates and collaborates pertinent information to co-workers. Reports appropriate information to Charge Nurse or Clinical Nurse Manager.
Cleans, disinfects, and cleans endoscopy equipment according to Facility policies and procedures. Documents information correctly. Follows all policies and procedure related to infection control.
Consults with Charge Nurse or physicians as needed. Works in the Admitting, Recovery & Reprocessing areas as assigned. Must be willing to fluctuate job responsibilities according to job assignment. Accepts direction from supervisor or physicians and adheres to established routines.
Maintains patients’ right to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area of within hearing range of visitors/family. Functions within the legal limits of technical practice.
Reports errors of commission / omission. Participates in QI, Materials Management, Safety, and Infection Control programs. Must follow guidelines as set forth by Facility policies and procedures, OSHA, AAAHC and Medicare.
