What are the responsibilities and job description for the Respite Provider position at Iowa Family Services?
Iowa Family Services is looking for qualified individuals to provide respite services for children and their families in your area who are served through Iowa’s Children’s Mental Health Waiver or Intellectual Disability Waiver.
This position provides all the care required for a child (or children) with severe emotional disturbances and/or intellectual disability. The purpose of respite care is to give the parent or primary caregiver a break from the daily responsibilities of caring for someone with a disability.
Services are flexible and scheduled directly with the primary care giver. Services generally take place at the home of the provider and in the community.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide a high quality of supervision and a safe environment for consumer(s) during their daily activities.
- Assist consumer(s) in completing daily tasks, as needed.
- Communicate safety concerns and incidents to Service Supervisor, consumer's guardian(s), and others as needed.
- Accurately document activities during respite shifts.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years old.
- Have a telephone, land or cell, with an answering machine or voicemail.
- Must have the ability to complete all documentation of services to meet Medicaid and agency requirements.
- Ability to meet all deadlines as required by this agency.
- Must be able to track hours worked to not exceed approved amounts.
- Must complete Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting training, as required by the Department of Human Services.
- Must have a passion for providing excellent care to others.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and high level of professionalism.
- Must be able to meet the physical and emotional demands of the consumer, which can include lifting, running, and de-escalating emotional situations. Such requirements are different for each consumer. Limits in this area will also limit the amount of work available.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year or greater experience with children with severe emotional disturbances.
- Education beyond high school in a human service or education-related field.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Have access to a reliable vehicle.
