Position: Farm Equipment and Diesel Technology Instructor/Coordinator

General Job Summary:
The instructor is responsible for teaching a full-time assignment of classes on the Emmetsburg Campus as defined by the College. This may include teaching high school students enrolled in college courses. Must evaluate and report student performance and progress in assigned courses in accordance with College and division policies and procedures.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
Effectively organize, teach, and evaluate student performance and progress in assigned course offerings in accordance with established syllabi. Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules, and locations.
Evaluate, report, and record student performance and progress according to College and division guidelines.
Maintain current course syllabi and provide student guides for all courses taught.
Design and implement teaching methodologies for classroom and laboratory activities, which will develop the competencies needed for individuals employed in farm equipment and diesel technology.

Maintain established office hours.
Assist the departmental academic advisor to ensure student progress and make referrals, when deemed necessary, to other College personnel, such as the Executive Dean, Education Counselor, Financial Aid, etc. for more specialized information and assistance.
Attend and serve on assigned and voluntary committees of the College.
Assist in the development of new curriculum, new courses, and revisions of existing courses and pathways in the discipline area to ensure continued growth and development in the program.
Maintain a program advisory committee.
Play an active role in recruiting students.
Responsible for proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
Arrange job training sites for student’s practical experience and monitor progress.
Acquire and maintain appropriate certification, licensure, and/or specialized accreditation for the farm equipment and diesel technology program.
Assist with continuing education programming.

Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classroom/laboratory use.

Serve as an advisor for the activities associated with the occupational section of the career and technical student organization.

Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, staff, and the community.
Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
Present oneself in a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies, and practices.
Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, administrators and other contacts.
Read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.
Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities.

Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
Ability to operate tools and equipment unique to the farm equipment and diesel technology repair industry.
Special Demands:
Position involves sitting or standing in an office or classroom setting. In a lab setting, which may include an actual construction site, the physical requirements of an auto mechanic are required. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and balancing, Exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently, 50 pounds of force occasionally, and infrequently higher force. May be required to travel utilizing personal vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance.
Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Salary: Commensurate with education and related experience for a 213-day contract.
