What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communication Consultant position at Iowa Primary Care Association?
The Iowa Primary Care Association is hiring a Communications Consultant in the Des Moines area.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
As part of the Engagement team, the Communications Consultant will drive communications work relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the Iowa Primary Care Association, INConcertCare, and IowaHealth and member community health centers. This individual is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all communications, marketing, and public relations activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications
- Collaborates with Senior Director of Engagement and Engagement Team to develop and execute annual communications plan to achieve network’s strategic goals and objectives
- Collaborates and builds strong relationships with community health center and internal staff to develop content that effectively demonstrates and tells the story of community health centers and our three organizations
- Collaborates with team members to develop external messaging and strategic communications to support our initiatives
- Develops and executes strategic utilization of social media and website to promote community health centers and the network
- Supports alignment of messaging and branding across teams and the organization
- Develops content and maintains websites, social media, and other e-communications
Branding
- Supports brand development and awareness strategies, serves as the brand champion
- Collaborates to develop, launch, and maintain marketing and strategic communications plan to support network brand
- Develops and coordinates review of communications materials
- Provides graphic design assistance
Patient Engagement
- Collaborates with all business units to develop patient engagement materials that elevate the voices of community health centers patients, staff, and the patients they serve
- Develops meaningful communications that address the unique needs of community health centers and supports our vision of “health equity for all”
- Collaborates with Engagement Team to educate, advise, strategize, and guide staff regarding any communication, project, or initiative and how to infuse a health equity lens
Event Management
- Collaborates and supports planning of the Iowa Community Health Conference and coordination with contracted event planners and internal team
- Collaborates with Senior Director of Engagement, Policy Analyst, and Program Manager with planning of communications, advocacy, or outreach events including Day on the Hill, etc.
- Supports Iowa PCA Communications and Engagement Committee meetings
- Fosters relationships with annual sponsors

Education and/or Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing or a related healthcare certification and experience in an equivalent role.
- 2-5 years of relevant communications experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to craft compelling messages and stories that resonate with target audiences.
- Strong collaborative and consultative skills; ability to cultivate productive working relationships
- Demonstrated ability to produce work with a high degree of accuracy under minimal supervision in a team-based environment
- Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of deliverables
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong proofreading and editing skills
- Strong follow-up skills, able to move a project from start to completion
- Proficiency in various media platforms, both traditional and digital.
Work schedule and Travel
This position is required to be on-site at least two days per work week. Some travel to community health centers and partners is required via vehicle or to conferences via air travel.
