Role Description

The Iowa Propane Gas Association is looking to hire a Director of Safety, Education and Compliance. This will be a full-time position. Salary will be based upon experience. Travel is required.


Under the general direction and supervision of the CEO, this position will manage the overall propane safety program for the Iowa Propane Gas Association as directed by its members. Key responsibilities are to provide strong and visible safety leadership through training, and field communications, working towards the goal to have the safest propane companies in the industry. Participate in the development of safety/operational standards, procedures and policies, and lead the implementation of these systems and programs to improve the group’s ability to exceed industry safety/compliance standards. Provide technical support to resolve safety related issues.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

·    Develop and lead the training efforts for propane safety and industry regulatory compliance.

·    Provide technical advice and oversight for all Safety related matters.

·    Coordinate, communicate and provide liaison with stakeholders, federal, state and local authorities regarding applicable operational standards.

·    Emphasis on education and promoting safety.

·    Attend appropriate training sessions (including meetings, conferences, and conventions) to ensure professional development in propane safety compliance.

·    Conduct training presentations, on and off site.

·    Other duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times as determined by the CEO in order to meet the needs of the organization and its members.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

·    Knowledge to work in a safe manner, and ability to demonstrate such at all times.

·    Knowledge of federal, state and other regulatory safety laws and regulations.

·    Ability to work without direct supervision.

·    Possess strong math skills.

·    Possess basic mechanical skills.

·    Ability to motivate and inspire others.

·    Excellent knowledge of Microsoft software. (Excel, Word & Power Point).

·    Ability to work with multiple levels of workforce and the General Public (IPGA staff, membership and their employees, propane customers of Iowa, etc.).

·    Possess public speaking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal communication skills required).

·    Must be able to work in a team environment.  

·    Knowledge of the transportation industry.  

·    Must be able to travel for work /- 40% of the time. 


REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

·    High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in safety or a technical discipline, preferred.

·    Minimum experience of 5 years in the Propane Industry or a related safety field.

·    Strong leadership skills to coach and train all levels of personnel.  

·    Current valid driver’s license.  


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary work, while working in the office area and occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time) medium duty work activities or conditions exist where exerting up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects occur. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for extended periods.


WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is subject to inside office setting environment conditions (controlled temperatures) and outside environments. At times, you may need to go into maintenance shops, visit propane plant and customer locations, and walk around external buildings to promote compliance, so you will experience changes in outside temperatures based on seasonal conditions. In addition, at certain times, you may be subject to exposure to dust, fumes, and unusual smells and may be exposed to hazardous or flammable chemicals, mechanical moving parts and heights.
