Trust Officer and Internal Legal Counsel
Iowa State Savings Bank is seeking an attorney to join our team and serve as Trust Officer and Internal Legal Counsel. This position will manage the professional administration of fiduciary accounts, including but not limited to probate administration, trust administration and conservatorships. Our Trust Officer(s) consult with existing clients and prospects, along with their personal attorney(s) and tax professional(s) regarding their estate planning. Preferred candidates should be willing to work with team members to drive business development efforts and provide internal counsel to the bank.
This role requires knowledge in Iowa probate & trust law, estate planning, and fiduciary duties.
Essential Duties:
- Serve as a primary advisor for trust and fiduciary accounts, managing all aspects of client relationships.
- Provide guidance on complex trust structures, estate planning, and wealth management strategies.
- Coordinate with out-side legal, tax, and financial professionals to assist their work designing trusts, wills, powers of attorney and similar wealth and legacy planning.
- Serve in a fiduciary role and ensure department actions adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Identify, develop, and secure new trust and wealth management relationships while cultivating referral sources.
- Work closely with our in-network portfolio managers to review account investments and communicate investment recommendations to clients.
- Provide written and verbal presentations to our Trust Investment Committee, Trust Investment Group, and Board of Directors.
- Protect ISSB's business interests by reviewing, advising, and responding to legal documents pertaining to the bank and/or financial accounts, products, and services.
- Oversee pending matters with outside legal counsel to ensure continued progress and to discuss potential further actions.
- Preparation of legal documents exclusively for ISSB's benefit, internal bank litigation, and some collection matters.
- Promote the bank through community involvement and leadership.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor degree with an active license to practice law in the State of Iowa required.
- Strong working knowledge of probate, trust, tax, investments, and estate planning.
- Experience in business development is a plus.
Hours:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, work outside of these hours may be required.
