Objective
To provide essential day-to-day office oversight and coordinate and support Master Gardener volunteers throughout the year.
Responsibilities
Office Manager:
- Oversees day-to-day office operations.
- Provides excellent customer service to clients.
- May serve as county staff representative for the extension council and creates council agendas and board packets
- May coordinate program logistics with program specialists and extension educators.
- May assist in managing local data collection in line with program area requirements
- Maintain high level of marketing and visibility for all programs.
- Oversee building maintenance and property management.
- Use standard policies and procedures regarding county business operations and council relations
- Maintain a positive working relationship with staff and clients in the county.
- Oversee equipment supplies and inventory balances.
- Continually develop and enhance relevant skills and understand current professional standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Completion of state-administered, online orientation program within 3 months of assuming county coordinator role.
- With direction of county administration, manage county specific volunteer requirements and approved projects.
- Plan and implement county MG training including timeline confirmation with state office, coordinating local speakers and leading at least 4 in-person sessions, marketing, accessing and managing students in Canvas, and promoting and encouraging students to attend Class on Campus.
- Obtain a copy and consult the Master Gardener Coordinator Manual for all programmatic rules and regulations.
- Register for and read the monthly Iowa Master Gardener Newsletter
- To the best of your ability, attend Statewide Monthly Master Gardener Coordinator calls (no less than once per quarter).
- Utilize Volunteer Recording System as primary volunteer management system, regularly updating volunteer records for accuracy and verifying Master Gardener volunteer and continuing education hours (final approval of prior years’ hours due mid-January).
- Associate degree or two years office management experience
- Bookkeeping experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Computer, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Team player and people oriented
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Excellent customer service skills
