Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and conducting county 4-H and youth activities such as day camps, county fair, and other special activities
- Attend events, as requested, that may require evening or weekend work
- Assist with general office duties such as organizing materials, photocopying, answering phone, managing registrations, etc.
- Create detailed lesson plans utilizing research-based curricula
- Organize supplies and equipment for programs
- Deliver face-to-face programming
- Chaperone youth on field trips, day camps and conference/retreats
- Prepare for county fair by processing entries and organizing materials
- Assist with daily events during the Poweshiek County Fair
- Represent Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Poweshiek County 4-H in a positive manner and serve as a positive role model in the community and to the youth of Poweshiek County
- High school graduate at least 18 years old required
- College or related work experience preferred
- Strong ability to communicate orally and in writing to youth, adults, and businesses
- Problem-Solving skills with ability to work simultaneously on multiple tasks
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Enjoy building positive relationships with youth and adult clients
- Comfortable speaking and presenting publicly to groups
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and the ability to travel within Poweshiek County
- Must successfully complete 4-H background screening prior to official hire date
- Possess computer skills including email, internet, video conferencing, Microsoft Office
- Maintain a close working relationship with staff, volunteers, and partners
- Well organized and capable of managing duties and schedules
- Available during the entire Poweshiek County Fair with the ability to work long hours
- Able to lift 50 pounds and lead programs outside during the summer
- Knowledge of 4-H Program, specifically program priority areas: STEM, Healthy Living, Arts and Communication, and Civic Engagement & Leadership
- Experience working with youth and preparing youth-centric lesson plans
- Experience planning or coordinating events or programs
- Experience with formal and informal education settings
- Work hours will generally fall between Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Hours may vary, with some evening and weekend hours. Must be available for the entire Poweshiek County Fair. Additional hours may be scheduled during the County Fair.
- Mileage for use of personal vehicle in the performance of approved duties will be paid at the current Poweshiek County travel allowance rate
