Three years of office management experience. Background in agricultural business or farm budgets. Experience with procedures and programs in higher education. Job Description: The Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences seeks a Business Administrator I to support the Associate Dean for Facilities and Operations and the Associate Dean for Research and Discovery. The business administrator will provide professional business level support to the ISU Research Farms (and its affiliate organizations), and administrative support to the Office of Research and Discovery, and administrative support to both Associate Deans leading each office. ISU Research Farms are an extensive statewide unit with 14 remote staffed locations including numerous agricultural buildings, residences and ~45 full-time and 25-40 part-time staff. The CALS Office for Research and Discovery manages Research Development, including pre-award services, teambuilding, and research analytics for the college. The business administrator will coordinate major business operations for all units including leases, agreements, budgets, analyses, inventories, personnel, and communications (newsletter and website) in a team approach, and will perform business functions to enhance the operations and service of the ISU Research Farms and Office for Research and Discovery. This position will provide support to administrative teams and serve as the first point of contact for staff located on and off campus. Administrative support for the Associate Deans involves managing their respective calendars as well as organizing and support occasional team meetings and seminar series. These activities require a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and self-motivation. Example of Duties • Monitors and interprets operational policies and procedures in areas such as information technology, communications, and facilities. • Prepares budgets and financial reports • Assists in establishing financial and operational systems to monitor, control, and verify expenditures and carry out financial analysis. • Manages day-to-day operational needs, including, but not limited to, logistics, email, calendars, and travel for the Associate Deans. • Manages logistics for seminar series, teambuilding, and other gatherings in collaboration with others. • May assist with employment business needs such as hiring of students, timekeeping responsibilities, and scheduling.
