The Parts Expeditor is responsible for coordinating the smooth flow of parts within a manufacturing facility, ensuring timely delivery of components to production lines by tracking inventory levels, expediting orders, communicating with suppliers and internal departments to meet production schedules and deadlines, and resolving any potential issues with part availability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitoring part inventory levels, identifying potential shortages, and reviewing purchase orders with suppliers to maintain adequate stock. 
  • Tracking incoming parts shipments, verifying quantities and quality against purchase orders, and communicating any discrepancies to suppliers or the Buyer Planner. 
  • Collaborating with production planning to ensure parts are delivered to the assembly line according to production schedules. 
  • Actively pursuing critical or overdue parts, communicating with suppliers to prioritize deliveries and address any delays. 
  • Liaising with various departments including purchasing, quality control, production, and customer service to manage part flow and resolve issues. 
  • Utilizing inventory management systems to generate reports on part availability, lead times, and potential bottlenecks. 
  • Identifying and resolving issues related to part shortages, incorrect deliveries, or quality concerns. 
  • Coordinating part deliveries, including packaging, labeling, and shipping documentation. 
  • Keeps detailed notes regarding vendor status and production communication in reporting systems.
  • Assists with closeout of the order, including payment of invoices, receipt of all deliverables and receiving of the goods in the system.
  • When necessary, escalates vendor problems, delays and questions both within the vendor, and internally within other functions, buyers and Procurement Managers to assist with getting resolution and keeping the vendor on schedule.
  • Proactively recommends, supports, and implements improvements to tools, systems and software to improve efficiency. 
  • Represents the department in meetings with other functions/management.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and practices through continuous professional development and networking. 
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory management systems and data analysis.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing company specific ERP/MRP systems.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as price vs. cost analysis, discounts, percentages, proportions, area, circumference, volume, metrics and interest. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Possess strong critical thinking, decision-making, and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables where limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints, component specifications, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, and business correspondence. 
  • Detail-oriented and solid organizational skills. 
  • Ability to effectively present information via spreadsheets, and computer software. 
  • Ability to timely respond to questions from managers, production supervisors, production personnel and customers.
  • Ability to occasionally travel up 15% to include both domestic and internationally.

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree or 2 year advanced technical degree with 5 years supply chain, production, and process improvement experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Bachelor degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or related field with a minimum 2 years of supply chain, production, and process improvement experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. 
  • Additional certifications such as Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) can be advantageous. 
  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing are a plus.
