Summary: The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for the efficient and accurate management of inbound and outbound shipments. This role encompasses verifying and processing incoming goods to ensure they meet quality standards, as well as preparing and coordinating outgoing shipments for timely delivery. Advanced measuring, testing equipment, and computer software may be utilized.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assure orders and quantities on shipping documents are correct through careful audit of documents and components to verify accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Prepare orders for shipment using proper packaging, including as necessary, the use of hand tools, panel saws, chop saws, nail gun, and staple gun to fabricate wood components and assemble crate to pack finished product.
- Ship orders using FEDEX, UPS, XCarrier and other methods through carriers’ processes.
- Assist and evaluate needs with shipping points, services, weights and other information.
- Notify consignee of shipment arrival
- Enter data pertaining to domestic and international shipments into ISO forms, i.e. shipment confirmation, and into the shipping systems of commercial freight carriers.
- Monitor the supply of packaging materials and requisition additional supplies as required.
- Confirm physical shipment of goods, facilitate tracking of packages.
- Identify errors on packing lists and ensure the accuracy of all shipping documents by strict adherence to standard operation procedures.
- Maintain all data and records relative to shipping activities.
- Record inspection data, such as weights and quantities inspected.
- Ensure that drivers depart with appropriate paperwork.
- Accurately execute ERP transactions such as receipts, shipments, transfers and inventory move.
- Inspect, test, or measure materials, products and/or work for conformance to specifications.
- Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers
- Read blueprints, data, or other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures.
- Mark items with details such as acceptance-rejection status
- Unload and load delivery trucks using a forklift.
- Deliver materials to departments using work devices such as hand truck, forklift, overhead crane or other methods.
- Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages or nonconformance to specifications.
- Other duties as assigned/needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to complete training required to operate a fork truck and overhead crane.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Knowledge of MRP systems, such as Syteline
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to multitask several priorities and possess solid time management skills.
- Ability to learn to read engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Effectively able to present information and respond to questions from managers, supervisors, and other employees of the organization.
- High School Degree or GED equivalent required.
- At least one (1) year of shipping and/or warehouse experience required.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
