Ipswich Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Assistant Principal to join the Paul F. Doyon Memorial School. The position will support the supervision and evaluation of staff, daily management and operations of the school building; safety and security; students and families; and teaching and learning of their designated school.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Instructional Management: Participate in the development and evaluation of programming Use technology to enhance the teaching and learning process Develop and support innovative curriculum Contribute actively to the school improvement process Promote guidance and support to new staffUse data to drive teaching and learning decisionsSchool/Organizational Climate: Promote a positive, caring climate for learning Deal sensitively and fairly with diverse personalities and backgrounds Communicate effectively with parents, students, staff, administrators and school committee Hold conferences with students, parents and teachers as needed Support a positive school culture in line with the school mission and principal 's leadership goalsMeet with student leaders to create equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives Assist in conflict resolution between students and staffRepair harm over behavioral infractionsSchool/Organizational Improvement: Share responsibility for the implementation of the school improvement plans Support the principal with data collection used to track school/student progress Support the principal as a school leader by planning/assisting at faculty/department meetingsCollaborate with teachers who request support for student behaviorStudent Management: Monitor the 504 process with the current team Create the master schedule during the summer months Create and distribute all schedule changes to students and staff throughout the year Supervise and monitor the lunches in the cafeteria Supervise and ensure safety during recessInvestigate disciplinary issues and create and implement progressive disciplinary measuresEnsure the school rules are uniformly observed Supervise and manage MCAS testing and DESE mandates including scheduling, coordination and meeting all deadlinesManage the international student exchange program Counseling student who needs emotional learning supportConduct home visits for students with absenteeism challengesTrack student attendanceDevelop innovative strategies, preventative approaches, and proactive plans for students who exhibit at-risk behaviors.Facilitate data-driven analysis and discussions with instructional staff regarding student performancePersonnel Management: Assist principal in the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of school personnel.Supervise and evaluate teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and make recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement, and continued employment.Serve as a confidential advisor to the principal.Observe teachers and give feedback.Provide leadership in student development, including orientation, attendance, counseling, discipline, and academic progress.Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management: Supervise the entire operation in the principal's absence.Assist the administration with Fire Drills and Emergency Response Procedures.Work with custodians and facilities manager to maintain a safe working environment.School and Community Relations: Articulate the school's mission to the community.Create positive working relationships between the public and the school by being a positive representative of the school in public and private life.Schedule and supervisor school events i.e. dances, concerts, parent meetings.Use appropriate techniques to involve parents and community to work in partnership and promote open and reflective school-parent relationships.Contribute to the well-being of the Ipswich Public Schools and provide leadership by serving on committees at the request of the Superintendent of Schools.Working Conditions: Stressful at times and requires composure and patience.Work is often interrupted and tasks are varied.Hours are unpredictable and include night time duties.Walking, outdoor supervision, stair climbing, standing and other physical requirements are customary.QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree Massachusetts Certification for Secondary Administration (6-12) Assistant Principal/ PrincipalSPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Thorough knowledge of day-to-day school operations Strong organizational/communication and interpersonal skills Seasoned public speaker and comfortable in large and small group settings Ability to support the principal in all school-based operationsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to do this job.
