Job Description:
SJ Technologies is seeking a motivated Image Scientist to support a product quality mission within a skilled and highly respected team. This is a unique opportunity to enhance your career by working with community subject matter experts, directly with the customer, and with project autonomy not customarily given as a government contractor.
Based on customer priorities, the Image Scientist will support:
- Product evaluations and quality studies
- New product initializations
- Product algorithm assessments
- Development of image quality equations to quantify system performance based on various parameters
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of image chain modeling, including sensor, detector, atmospheric, and material properties. They should also have experience with simulation, algorithm development, and familiarity with GEOINT systems, products, and exploitation software. The role requires collaboration within an existing team and prioritization based on government customer needs.
Responsibilities:
- Perform sensor modeling and decompose product formation elements to quantify overall image quality.
- Conduct algorithm assessments to evaluate product performance for mission applications.
- Perform baseline assessments of system performance for sensor initialization.
- Monitor operational system performance over time.
- Identify and respond to detected errors and artifacts, recommending potential causes and corrective actions.
Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI clearance or ability to obtain SCI and pass a polygraph.
- Degree in Image Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics (BS with 5 years of experience, MS with 3 years).
- Experience with imagery and complex products collected from SAR imaging platforms.
- Strong background in image processing and digital signal processing.
- Image chain analysis experience, including sensor modeling, signal quality, noise, detector calibration, and image formation.
- Understanding and application of image quality standards (e.g., NIIRS), scales, metrics, and image quality equations.
- Familiarity with sensor imaging systems, products, and exploitation processes.
- Experience with the systems engineering lifecycle, independent testing, and data verification.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including briefing technical issues and writing test plans/reports.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and adaptability to a dynamic work environment.
- Proven track record of delivering results.
