Description Job Summary: The Coder II accurately codes all appropriate diagnoses and procedures for correct billing and accurate statistical reporting using ICD-10-CM / PCS and CPT-4 nomenclatures. Also monitors and processes unbilled accounts and performs various computer-related tasks. Coder II will choose either the outpatient or inpatient coding track. Both tracks code visit records using appropriate standard classification systems accurately in a timely manner. Reviews records for medical necessity and queries providers as appropriate. Regularly monitors the appropriate hold accounts to facilitate timely coding. Has full access to patient health information. Coder II will provide brief OGCR (Official Guidelines for Coding & Reporting) or Coding Clinic education to the coding team at least 2 times each calendar year and will also serve as a resource for coding /- process questions from Coder Trainees or Coder I as appropriate. Coder II has the option to work remotely as long as quality and productivity benchmarks are met*. If quality and/or productivity falls below expectations for 2 successive reviews the Coder II will be required to work on-site a minimum of 3 days per week until quality and productivity benchmarks are consistently met. (See remote work policy). Outpatient Track May work remotely as long as all standards are consistently met. Inpatient Track Career Path Initial requirement is a minimum of 3 days on-site each week. Remote days added as determined by IP coding coordinator based on performance. IP Coding Experience Initial requirement is a minimum of 2 days on-site each week. Remote days added as determined by IP coding coordinator based on performance. 3 years inpatient coding experience. May work remotely as long as all standards are consistently met. Shift: M-F Flex Core Hours Requirements Job Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Current AHIMA or AAPC credential (RHIA / RHIT / CCS / CPC / CPC-H) required. Credential(s) must be kept current and without lapse. Experience Outpatient Track Minimum of twelve (12) months experience in facility outpatient coding (all OP coding types) Consistently meets quality and productivity standards. Inpatient Track Inpatient coding experience preferred. Excellent communication, computer and typing skills required. Ability to tolerate viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time. Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and various medical specialties. Ability to read handwritten documentation, detail oriented, and able to work independently. Ability to professionally cope with stressful situations. Able to identify problematic situations / issues and work with management to resolve or improve them. Physical Demands: Must pass a basic FIT test to include bending, stooping, standing and sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires normal vision/hearing range ( /- assistive devices such as glasses or hearing aids) and absence of color-blindness. Reports to: Outpatient or Inpatient Coding Coordinator as appropriate.
