JOB DESCRIPTION: BEHAVIORAL SPECIALIST
General Statement of Job: Works with the behavior team members, school counselors, school social workers, SAPs, administrators and teachers to assess student behavior, collect data, develop functional behavior assessments (FBA), and create behavior intervention plans (BIP). This is a grant funded position, the funding ends 05/2025, with potential to be funded beyond 05/2025.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills: Master’s in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Teaching or other related field required, as well as experience working with children with behavioral problems. Knowledge and experience in Functional Behavioral Assessment and use of behavior management techniques.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides evidence/research based interventions, based on the ISS District MTSS Behavior Model.
Collect behavior data, identify antecedent triggers for FBA. Complete FBAs and write BIPs based on data.
Provide regular coaching/support to school staff/teachers on supporting students with behavioral challenges.
Collaborate with school social workers, school counselors, teachers and administration to assess student behavior and develop functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
Use data to write effective BIPs, use data to drive changes/decisions regarding response to behavioral interventions. Present data to the ARC Committee if a student is needing a higher level of support.
Conduct observations to collect and graph behavior data.
Work collaboratively with and direct the work of behavioral technicians to support students and school staff.
Follow the district behavior process, respond to behavior referrals within 24 hours.
Consult with principals and school staff regarding program behavior strategies/supports.
Provide professional development training to staff on behavior management as needed.
Establish rapport and collaborate with staff, students and parents.
Ensure that data/documentation is accurate and uploaded to RtI Stored each behavior cycle.
Attend bi-weekly behavior specialist meetings. Attend monthly behavior team meetings.
Ability to travel between multiple school sites and manage time effectively to ensure all student/staff needs are met.
Assist education stakeholders in understanding student data.
Provide support to ensure that progress monitoring data is being collected with fidelity for behavior.
Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the profession.
Other duties as assigned.
