Position Purpose
The Math Interventionist provides targeted instructional support to students performing below grade level in mathematics. This role involves identifying student needs, delivering interventions, monitoring progress, and collaborating with staff to improve overall student achievement in math. The interventionist supports instruction across all grade levels, helps integrate math concepts across content areas, and may teach a regular math block as assigned. This role also includes providing professional development and resources to enhance instructional practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify students in need of math intervention using data, teacher input, and benchmarks.
Design and deliver small-group or individualized instruction based on learning gaps.
Collaborate with Math Tutors to establish and maintain an intervention schedule.
Organize and lead Math intervention groups during the school day.
Analyze data from feeder schools to assess and address math readiness needs.
Evaluate and recommend programs that support math achievement.
Partner with the EC department to create math interventions for students with IEPs.
Assist math teachers in lesson planning and instructional strategy development.
Provide feedback through classroom walkthroughs to support effective teaching.
Collaborate with teachers to implement evidence-based math strategies in the classroom.
Teach a block of math as assigned by the school schedule, if needed.
Monitor and assess student progress using formative and summative assessments.
Adjust instruction based on data and student response to intervention.
Support implementation of math curriculum and instructional best practices.
Participate in data meetings, IEP teams (if applicable), and student support planning.
Provide professional development and coaching to teachers on math content, instructional strategies, and intervention techniques.
Share instructional resources to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
Communicate student progress with families, teachers, and school leadership.
Maintain accurate records of interventions, student progress, and instructional outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of math content across multiple grade levels.
Ability to diagnose and address learning gaps in mathematics.
Knowledge of tiered intervention models (RTI/MTSS).
Familiarity with research-based strategies and instructional resources.
Skilled in data analysis and using results to guide instruction.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to support diverse learners and promote student growth.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Certification: Valid state teaching license with Mathematics endorsement (as required).
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of successful math teaching experience.
Experience with intervention strategies and/or working with struggling learners preferred.
Work Environment and Requirements:
Must be able to work in both classroom and small group settings.
Willingness to teach a math block as needed per the school schedule.
May be required to attend evening events, parent meetings, and professional development sessions.
