Position Summary:
We are seeking a qualified Rope Access Radiography NDT Technician (RT) to join our team of experts. This role combines rope access techniques with advanced radiographic non-destructive testing (RT) to inspect critical components and structures. The ideal candidate will be certified in radiographic testing and have experience working at heights, with a strong focus on safety, precision, and teamwork. This position requires 100% travel.
Key Responsibilities:
Radiographic Non-Destructive Testing (RT):
- Perform radiographic testing (RT) to identify and document defects in materials, welds, and components.
- Interpret RT film and digital radiographs to assess structural integrity and compliance with industry standards.
- Ensure proper setup, positioning, and exposure of X-ray or gamma-ray equipment.
- Safely handle and manage radiation sources following strict safety and regulatory guidelines.
Rope Access Operations:
- Execute inspection tasks using rope access techniques in compliance with IRATA or SPRAT standards.
- Rig, inspect, and maintain anchor systems to ensure secure and efficient rope access setups.
Safety and Radiation Compliance:
- Strictly adhere to radiation safety standards and protocols, including ALARA principles (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
- Conduct and document site-specific risk assessments and Job Site Analyses (JSA).
- Monitor and maintain radiation dosimetry records and adhere to national and local regulations.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed reports of radiographic findings, including accurate records of exposures, film interpretation, and test outcomes.
- Maintain proper documentation of equipment maintenance, certifications, and compliance with client and industry standards.
- Effectively communicate inspection results and recommendations to clients and team members.
Equipment Maintenance and Calibration:
- Regularly inspect and maintain radiography equipment, including cameras, dosimeters, and PPE.
- Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly for accurate results.
Team Collaboration and Training:
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks and meet project timelines.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced technicians, fostering a culture of safety and learning.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education and Certifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- IRATA Level 1/2/3 or SPRAT equivalent (required)
- Valid radiographic NDT Level II certification in accordance with ASNT, ISO, or equivalent standards (required)
- Radiation safety certification and knowledge of national regulations (required)
- GWO Working at Height certification (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in radiographic testing, preferably with rope access.
- Familiarity with interpreting industry codes, specifications, and procedures for RT inspections.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in operating X-ray and gamma-ray equipment.
- Proficiency in handling and storing radioactive materials safely.
- Strong understanding of structural and material behaviors under stress.
Physical Requirements:
- Move, carry, and lift objects 50 lbs.
- Must be able to walk, stand, bend, reach, and climb.
- Remain constantly active throughout shift.
- Vision abilities: close vision, distance vision.
- Excellent physical fitness and the ability to endure prolonged outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working at height > 250ft
