Position Overview
The Light Mechanical Technician is responsible for the routine maintenance, inspection, and minor repairs of floating roofs, tanks, and piping ensuring their safe and efficient operation.
Key Responsibilities
Inspections
· Regularly performing environmental inspections of floating roof tanks for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion, including checking seals, pontoon integrity, and roof level.
Maintenance and Minor Repairs
· Bolting and unbolting of tank floating roof equipment and piping.
· Perform leak repair on tank floating roofs, and general maintenance on tanks.
· Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical issues, including replacing seals, adjusting components, and addressing minor structural problems.
· Implement and execute preventative maintenance procedures to minimize downtime and extend lifespan of equipment.
· Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, repair or replace defective parts, and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper functionality.
Safety and Compliance
· Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations when working on or around floating roof tanks.
· Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, ensuring the work environment is safe, and reporting any safety concerns.
· Understanding of safety protocols and regulations, including confined space entry.
Documentation and Reporting
· Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, document any repairs or modifications, and report equipment performance.
Collaboration and Communication
· Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members about the condition of the tanks and any necessary repairs.
Technical Knowledge and Mechanical Aptitude
· Familiarity with mechanical principles, hydraulic systems, and welding techniques is beneficial.
· Ability to work with hands, use tools and equipment, and perform physical tasks.
Problem-Solving
· Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems effectively.
Qualifications, Experience and Requirements:
· High School Diploma or equivalent is required
· No prior experience is required; onsite training provided
· Prior experience in mechanical maintenance or repair, particularly in industrial settings, will be considered an asset
· Experience with the use of hand and power tools and equipment such as measuring devices, air impact wrenches, pneumatic bolt tenders, torque wrenches, torque multipliers, and lifting equipment is considered a huge advantage
· Prior experience working in chemical plants and refineries is preferred
· Ability to work at heights and confined spaces for long periods of time
· Must be clean shaven and have no issues wearing respiratory equipment
· Valid Driver’s License and pre-access drug and alcohol testing required
· Pre-employment background checks will be required
· Valid TWIC Card or the ability to obtain a valid TWIC Card is required
Work Conditions:
· Field duties require indoor and/or outdoor work in diverse industrial environments with varying weather conditions
· Interaction with a wide range of stakeholders
· Working in a plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels
· May be required to work from various levels of heights and/or in close, confined spaces for long periods of time
· Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection (PPE) such as; must be clean shaven and capable to wearing respiratory equipment with no issues
Physical and Mental Requirements:
· Ability to lift, move and carry objects weighing 75 pounds or more
· Must be able to walk, stand, bend, reach, and climb
· Must be able to work indoors and/or outdoors in all weather conditions
· Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and work in various environments including from heights and confined spaces
