Minimum Education Required: High school graduate or equivalent; Associates or Diploma in Business or Medical Office Administration or Medical Secretarial preferred.
Minimum Experience Required: Minimum experience of three years coding in an acute care hospital setting or physician office with multiple specialties.
Licensure/Certification Required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
Skills required (if applicable): Excellent written and oral communication skills. Data entry experience required. Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work cooperatively and productively with others. Thorough knowledge of ICD-10) CM coding system and inpatient payment systems including DRG's, CMG's and inpatient psychiatric prospective payment system. Thorough knowledge of CPT and HCPCS coding systems and outpatient payment systems including APC's. Must be able to demonstrate competency by satisfactorily completing IRMC outpatient coding competency test.
Position Summary: Utilizing ICD-10-CM classification system and the CPT/HCPCS coding system and applicable guidelines, SDC, CLI, INO, ER, RCR and REF records are coded, resulting in optimal reimbursement for the hospital.
