What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Safety Co-Op Intern - Casual position at IRMC?
In this role you will be:
- Assisting the Director of Safety and Security in various administrative and operational safety tasks.
- Creating a comprehensive inventory of chemicals used throughout the facility, organized by department.
- Identifying each chemical by name and manufacturer.
- Supporting the initial set-up of a facility-wide safety data sheet (SDS) database.
- Ensuring all SDS are current, accessible, and categorized properly.
- Collaborating with department heads to gather safety-related information.
- Participating in routine audits and walkthroughs to identify safety compliance issues.
- May assist in other safety-related projects such as emergency preparedness plans, safety signage review, and incident documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- EDUCATION: Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or related field.
- EXPERIENCE: No prior experience required; prior internship or coursework in safety a plus.
- SKILLS:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong organizational and research skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with OSHA standards and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Previous experience with database management or data entry.
