Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Physical Requirements:

Current Missouri license to practice as a Registered Nurse (minimum Associate Degree in Nursing); preference for a minimum of
one (1) year OR or ICU experience with willingness to train - Current BLS, PALS, and ACLS certification (or able to acquire within first 6 months of being placed in position)

During surgeries, must know what tools to use and how to handle them correctly as well as how to use aseptic techniques to
prevent infection. - Must successfully complete generic and department-specific skills, validation and competency testing
- Commitment to continual improvement of nursing skills through participation in educational opportunities on and off the job

Must be physically able to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist and turn, push and pull – sometimes from awkward
positions – safely; ability to safely lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. and assist with moving patients up to 300 pounds; vision,
hearing and dexterity skills must be within normal limits - Effective verbal communication skills a must, including correct and appropriate use of medical terminology
Responsibilities:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities for this position will include, but not be limited to, the following: provide direct and
individualized perioperative nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles In addition to general
nursing care, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate pre- and post-operative
- Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team
- Takes and monitors patients’ vital signs.
- Ensures that physician is operating on correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed
- Provides basic, bedside care, pre- and post-operative
- Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse
registered nurse
- Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol
- Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the
- Assists as needed in preparing operating room for patient/procedure
- Monitors patients’ physical and emotional well-being throughout the OR care continuum
- Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physicians. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their posttreatment home care needs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation
