Responsibilities
Job Description:
The Staff Accountant will be a key member of the finance and accounting team, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing detailed financial reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The role requires close collaboration with the Controller during the month-end closing process and the ability to work effectively in a government contracting environment.
- Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded in compliance with GAAP.
- Support month-end closing activities in coordination with the Controller.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Manage assigned general ledger accounts and ensure accurate account reconciliations during the month-end process.
- Review and post transactions to the general ledger system.
- Assist with the preparation of documents and schedules for external audits.
- Support the preparation and submission of tax filings for federal, state, and local government agencies.
Job Duties Include (but are not limited to):
- Collaborate with the Controller to maintain the integrity of financial data and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Perform detailed account reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Ensure transactions are properly documented and aligned with organizational policies.
- Contribute to process improvements and the development of financial reporting systems.
- Provide accounting support for internal and external stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
- Must have at least one of the following:
- A minimum of 4 years of general finance or accounting experience.
- 1–2 years of accounting experience in a government contracting setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills.
- Moderate understanding of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Due to US Government Contract Requirements, only US Citizens are eligible for this role.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with Deltek CostPoint or similar ERP systems (e.g., Unanet).
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
