About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Tank Car Flux Core Welder / Railcar Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you'll be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining tank cars and other rail equipment to ensure they meet company and industry standards. What You'll Do
- Perform repairs and replacements on worn or damaged parts (e.g., bearings, gears, pistons).
- Weld and fabricate components using SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW methods.
- Inspect and maintain parts like couplers, wheels, seals, and gaskets.
- Record maintenance performed and track equipment conditions.
- Test systems and components for operability before and after repairs.
- Repair and maintain electrical components for braking and propulsion systems.
- Remove and install parts using pneumatic tools, hoists, jacks, torches, and gauges.
- Read blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to fabricate or install new components.
- Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights as needed.
What We're Looking For
Required Skills & Abilities
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs (team lift up to 150 lbs).
- Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions, confined spaces, and at heights.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and work scopes.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction).
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2–5 years of railcar repair experience (or equivalent education/experience).
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools used in railcar repair.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn and take direction.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Frequent exposure to loud noise, fumes, dust, and outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain).
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, climb, crouch, and lift.
- Must be able to wear a respirator and safety gear as required.
- Work on and around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
- Comfortable entering tank cars and working in confined spaces or elevated areas.
