Job Description: Security Guard (Fill-In Basis)
Position Overview:
As a Security Guard (Rover) on a fill-in basis, you will be responsible for maintaining a secure and safe environment for employees, visitors, and assets within an organization. Your primary duty will be to provide temporary security coverage during scheduled or unscheduled absences of regular security personnel. You will be expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and customer service while ensuring the protection of people and property.
This position averages 16-20 hours per week. There are no guarantees on the number of hours assigned or the shift/schedule. All work hours will be night time shifts, between 6:00pm and 6:00am. The shifts can be 4 hours, 6 hours, or 8 hours, depending on the needs of the organization. This position is known as a “rover” position.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Security Presence: Maintain a visible and alert security presence at all times, acting as a deterrent against potential security threats. Be observant and promptly respond to any suspicious activities or incidents.
2. Access Control: Monitor and control access to the premises, checking identification, and verifying credentials of employees, visitors, and contractors. Enforce entry and exit procedures, ensuring only authorized individuals gain access.
3. Patrol and Surveillance: Conduct regular patrols of the premises, both on foot and using surveillance systems, to detect and prevent unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, or other security breaches. Conduct scheduled checkpoint scans via Guard Tour Patrol application. Maintain accurate activity logs and report any irregularities.
4. Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, such as fire alarms, medical emergencies, or security breaches. Take appropriate actions to minimize risks and ensure the safety of individuals on the premises. Follow established emergency protocols and procedures.
5. Alarm Systems and Equipment: Monitor and operate security systems, including alarm systems, CCTV cameras, and access control systems. Report any malfunctions or equipment failures promptly to the appropriate authorities.
6. Crowd Control: Maintain order and manage crowd movements during events or situations that attract large gatherings. Implement crowd control strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of attendees.
7. Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by assisting employees, visitors, and contractors with directions, information, and general inquiries. Address their concerns or requests courteously and professionally.
8. Incident Reporting: Prepare detailed and accurate incident reports, documenting any security breaches, accidents, or unusual activities observed during shifts. Submit reports to the appropriate supervisors or security management.
9. Policies and Procedures: Adhere to all security policies, procedures, and protocols established by the organization. Stay updated with security best practices, emerging threats, and relevant industry regulations.
10. Training and Development: Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance your knowledge of security practices, emergency response procedures, and customer service skills. Seek opportunities for professional development and stay abreast of industry trends.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid security guard license or certification as required by local regulations.
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or military is helpful but not required.
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
- Physical fitness and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Basic computer skills for operating security systems and generating reports.
- Availability to work on short notice, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing work schedules and assignments.
