Summary: 

The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Coordinator has a dynamic role focused on assisting in the development and implementation of HSE strategies for IRONWOOD Business Consulting (IRONWOOD). This position provides advice and counsel to HSE professionals and managers on moderate to complex issues via remote and onsite consultations. The HSE Coordinator will provide counseling on issues such as safety compliance with laws and regulations, workplace injuries and fatalities, and other safety-related functions across multiple industries. The HSE Coordinator will be responsible for assessing and prioritizing issues to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely resolution of safety issues, recordkeeping requirements, OSHA guidance, investigations, and policy interpretation questions. This position plays a key role in coordinating HSE projects, ensuring consistency across various channels, and supporting the HSE team in executing effective HSE initiatives. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Supports IRONWOOD’s overall mission, vision, and core values through assisting with the HSE department’s needs. Seeks out industry best practices, effective, and efficient methods to achieve operational excellence in HSE compliance. 
  • Promotes a consistent and best practices approach to client issues, adherence to policies, compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements and standards, and carries out project work in support of departmental initiatives. 
  • Provides internal and external consultation and guidance on various safety topics and provides resources and support as needed. Recommends best practices for related areas such as recordkeeping requirements, OSHA, inspections, investigations, and other safety regulations and policies. 
  • Develops and delivers internal or external training on various HSE and professional development topics. 
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and recent technologies regarding HSE functions, safety, and regulatory compliance. 
  • Prepare and develop documents, manuals, and forms as needed. Reviews, edits, and maintains client policies, procedures, and forms to meet various city, state, and federal regulatory requirements. Tracks relevant laws and regulations. Updates clients’ operating manuals and procedural documents when regulations change. 
  • Support overall external investigation needs for client workplace issues. Evaluate needs, schedule, and assist efficient resolutions for client needs. 
  • Effectively manages client information. Follow established guidelines and procedures to exercise a high level of discretion and independent judgment while requiring minimal management oversight. 
  • Monitor client emails and phone calls as necessary. 

 

Qualifications: 

To perform the job successfully, the requirements representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required include 

the following: 

  • Education/Experience – Bachelor’s degree, or a related field. Education can be substituted for equivalent experience. Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and guidelines. 
  • Language & Communication – Expresses thoughts verbally and in written form. Exhibits good listening and comprehension. Selects and uses appropriate communication methods. Keeps others adequately informed. Delivers engaging presentations. Strong communication skills in English are essential. Bilingual (English and Spanish) communication skills are desired. 
  • Computer Skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), browsers, documents, and other relevant software applications. The ability to navigate and research issues is essential to this role. Understanding of ISNetworld, DISA, Veriforce, TPS Alerts, and similar compliance platforms, along with OSHA 300 logs is a plus. 
  • Planning & Organization – Prioritizes and plans work activities. Uses time efficiently. Plans for additional resources. Integrates changes smoothly. Detail-oriented and works in an organized manner. 
  • Personal Skills & Customer Service – Interacts professionally with employees, clients, and others. Handles confidential information appropriately. Displays courtesy and sensitivity. Manages difficult or emotional customer situations. Meets commitments. Responds to customer needs. Solicits customer feedback to improve service. 
  • Problem Solving & Change Management – Identifies problems in a timely manner. Gathers information skillfully. Develops alternative solutions as appropriate. Works well in group problem solving situations. Uses reason when dealing with emotional topics. Communicates changes effectively and supports those affected by change. 
  • Flexibility – Able to navigate and react to developing situations and provide clear guidance when navigating complex issues. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

 

Environment: 

The work environment characteristics and physical demands representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include: 

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. 
  • The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see.  
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. 
  • Work is generally performed in a home office or a quiet, dedicated workspace. 
  • The employee must have a reliable, high-speed internet connection. 
  • Work may include driving to and from meetings and/or client locations. 


Employees must be able to move throughout a client's facility, and may be required to detect and communicate safety hazards effectively.
