REPORTS TO : Principal PAY GRADE : Paraprofessional 030 (187 days)

QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum Education / Certification :
- Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 60 college semester hours are preferred
Special Knowledge / Skills :
Ability to work well with childrenAbility to use / learn basic computer applicationsKnowledge of general office equipmentEffective written and oral communication, organization and interpersonal skillsProficient skills in basic mathBilingual English / Spanish speaking preferredExperience :
One-year clerical experience or equivalent experience preferredExperience working with children / students and parentsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
General Responsibilities :
Perform receptionist / clerical duties in the office or designated location as a signedMaintain confidentiality of informationAssist in the maintenance of administrative records and preparation of reports as requiredAssist in inventory, care, and maintenance of records, materials, and equipment as assignedAssist in preparing materials / displays for instructional or campus operationsAnswers incoming calls politely, takes reliable messages, and routes to appropriate staffPrepare bibliographies, forms, purchase orders, requisitions, and routine correspondenceReceive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoicesShelve books, materials, and equipment. Help inventory physical and online resources. Distribute and dispatch materials from / to the library and other sources including but not limited to other district libraries, public libraries, Region X Educational CenterInstructional Strategies :
Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises and activitiesKeep teachers and Administrators informed of any special needs, problems, and progress of individual studentsTeach the lesson outline and described in the teacher's lesson plans, substitute teacher guide, and as otherwise preparedConsult as appropriate with the principal, or does it for me before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the instructional plans providedClassroom and Campus Management and Organization :
Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assignedOversee the behavior of students throughout the school day, both inside and outside of the classroomSupervise various areas of the campus both inside and outside the building, including but not limited to the library, cafeteria, classrooms, and gymMaintain a neat and orderly classroomWorks cooperatively with others.Exhibits good public relations skills. Interacts with staff, students, parents, and the community in a way that has a positive impact on students and the Irving ISD communityProfessional Growth and Development :
Is punctual to scheduled meetings, appointments and classrooms.Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meeting, and special events as requiredPolicy Implementation :
Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject In which good teaching practices dictate.Adheres to all Board policies, Professional Code of Ethics, and Campus and District administrative procedures.Is present and on time to work daily and adheres to all time clock and attendance procedures and policies.Equipment Used :
Computer / peripherals, audiovisual equipment (analog and digital), laminator, facsimile, copier, multi-phone line, fax machineSupervisory Responsibilities :
Directly supervises none.

Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Moderate to heavy lifting of materials and equipment up to 30 pounds without assistance. Frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Complete detailed work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of computers.
Safety : Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
