Purpose of Position/Summary:
Irvington Preparatory Academy (IPA) is seeking a highly motivated, dedicated, and enthusiastic teacher to become part of the team of outstanding educators on staff. Teachers at IPA work collaboratively within their departments to provide an appropriate and challenging learning environment while building relationships with students. The Science teacher is responsible to prepare lessons and present content so that students meet the state standards for their assigned course. Teachers use formative and summative assessment to guide instruction and measure student progress.
Classes at IPA average 20 students per class with some core content classes being slightly larger. Students come to class with diverse experiences and levels of performance. To support the needs of diverse learners, IPA utilizes Title 1 and special education support as well as weekly professional development for teachers.
Irvington Community Schools, Inc. is a public charter school serving the needs of a diverse population of students in the historic Irvington area. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the school’s mission and of the charter school movement in general.
Job Requirements:
- Enthusiasm for content and meeting the needs of a diverse student population
- Understanding of how the use of assessment data informs instructional practices
- Creative and engaging approach to lesson planning and use of resources
- Focus on building and modeling interpersonal relationships with students, colleagues, and families
- Demonstrate competence in Google Apps for Education and Chromebooks
- All other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in secondary education
- Valid Indiana Teaching license for Biology or Chemistry
- Experience working with at-risk student populations preferred
- Must be flexible and hardworking, dedicated to the success of student in an urban school setting
