Salary: $20.75/hr. - $21.50/hr. $1,000 signing bonus

Position Description
The Elementary Age Afterschool Program at Goodman Community Center (GCC) is a place for children from all backgrounds to play, socialize, learn and grow. Teachers assist the classroom in organizing, supervising, and implementing after school programming that supports the goals of GCC’s elementary program. This is a posting for multiple positions.

Qualifications
- At least a CDA Credential or preferably an associate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or equivalent, or a baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development, or a degree in a related field with course work specifically related to early childhood education.
- Experience working in a childcare setting.
- Commitment to GCC’s mission to strengthen lives and secure futures.
- Familiarity with State of WI Childcare Licensing Rules and Regulations and City of Madison Accreditation Guidelines.
- Familiar with Conscious Discipline and Creative Curriculum.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and a willingness to drive a 15 passenger van.
- Experience working with staff and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences and a dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the other teacher in the room in developing a welcoming environment; establishing lesson plans and assisting children in their homework completion and encourage literacy and math skill building
- Work collaboratively with the Metropolitan Madison School District and early childhood staff to ensure shared space is respected and utilized effectively.
- Support children in their social-emotional development using various approaches including Positive Behavior Supports and Conscious Discipline.
- Assist and participate in planning, organizing and the execution of program orientations, open-house, center-wide events and GCC wide family engagement programming.
- Provide a supportive environment where children are encouraged to participate in a program as an individual or as of a group in classroom settings.
- Maintain organization, rotation of materials and regularly sanitize and clean classroom spaces.
- Maintain portfolios on assigned group of children throughout the school year making sure to include teacher communication, anecdotal notes, work samples, pictures, etc.
- Use pre-program time to plan long- and short-range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, making sure to support developmentally appropriate practice and program goals.
- Communicate with school day teachers to ensure the program meets the academic needs of children in your assigned classroom group, including homework completion.
- Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within this position's duties.
